
PORTLAND — Denver Summit FC created chances but could not find the back of the net Saturday night, falling 1-0 to the Portland Thorns at Providence Park.
Colorado native Sophia Wilson scored the lone goal in the 44th minute, giving Portland the lead just before halftime. It was Wilson’s 10th goal of the season.
The Summit had opportunities to find an equalizer, but Portland’s defense held firm to preserve the shutout.
The loss drops Denver to 6-6-8 with 24 points and leaves the expansion club in 11th place in the NWSL standings. Portland improved to 11-4-6 and moved into third place.
Denver will return home next Saturday, Aug. 29, to face the Chicago Stars at Centennial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. MT.
