The Women of Color Empowerment Institute is marking a major milestone this fall with its 15th annual Women of Color Empowerment Conference, a three-day event running September 11–13 at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa.

Bernadette Norris-Weeks, founder of the Women of Color Empowerment Institute, said the organization exists to grow and strengthen leadership among women of color.

"The institute is a 501 C3 organization with the mission to enhance and expand leadership by women of color," Norris-Weeks said.

The conference is the institute's flagship event and will be packed with programming across all three days. Friday, September 11, opens with an evening program featuring state legislators speaking to the conference's theme: "Made for This Moment." Self-care experts who have authored books on the subject will also be featured.

Saturday, September 12, is a full day of programming with speakers traveling from across the country. Topics will include women and finance, self-care, artificial intelligence and health care.

Saturday evening will also feature a mermaid gala, an elegant affair held at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa.

The conference wraps Sunday, September 13, with jazz on the beach.

Norris-Weeks said the theme of this year's conference speaks directly to the challenges women are navigating right now.

"This year it's about being made for this moment and knowing that empowerment, no matter what you're facing, no matter what challenges with this changing economy, with everything that we're going through as a country, really knowing that you can do it, you can go forward, you can achieve in spite of anything that may be going on," Norris-Weeks said.
