Football has become a 24/7 experience. Between fantasy lineups, nonstop injury updates, social media, sports betting, and the emotional roller coaster of wins and losses, fans are staying connected long after the game ends.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Ronde Barber is teaming up with DenTek, the number one over-the-counter dental night guard brand, to share surprising findings from the new DenTek Football Stress Test survey.
The survey found 60% of football fans find the season stressful. It also found 78% of fans continued thinking about the game after it ends, and 77% think about it while in bed.
"It's supposed to be fun, but it is still very, very stressful. And I think the takeaway is that the game just stays with you for a long time," Barber said.
Barber said he relates to the findings firsthand.
"I'm like every other fan at this point; now I'm retired, so I'm checking scores in bed just like 40% of other people. And the final whistle just doesn't mean the end of the game," Barber said.
The survey also found a direct connection between football stress and teeth grinding. Seven out of 10 people say they grind or clench their teeth while watching a game, with even more doing so when thinking about football after the game ends.
"You generally start grinding your teeth when you're stressed. And the number one, I think probably top 5 or 6, cause of teeth soreness or jaw soreness is stress," Barber said.
Fantasy football adds another layer of stress to the experience, with fans spending time setting lineups and tracking player performance well beyond game day.
