Nefertiti is a tiny kitten with a big personality, and she is ready to find her forever home.
The 8- to 9-week-old kitten weighs about 2 pounds and is already making her presence known. Cherie Wachter, a representative from the Humane Broward shelter, brought Nefertiti in to introduce her to potential adopters.
"She is active and ready to go," Wachter said. "She's already leaped off the chair several times, and she's vocal. She wants to tell you stories. So if you're looking for someone to listen to your stories, she could be the girl for you."
Nefertiti is best suited for an active household. Wachter said prospective adopters looking for a lap cat may want to consider an older animal instead.
"If you're looking for someone that's just going to sit and snuggle, I'd suggest an adult cat because she is certainly not the one," Wachter said. "She probably would do best with another kitty in the house, or maybe even a dog friend."
Wachter, who has owned cats her entire life, said the animals make wonderful companions.
"Each one has a different personality, just like people," she said. "My cat at home, she looks forward to me coming home every night. She greets me with the meow, lets me know she's ready to be fed, and then she also lets me know when it's time to go to bed."
Walker adopted her own cat at age 7, and the cat is now 13 years old.
For those interested in adopting Nefertiti or another animal, the adoption kennel is open daily at 11 a.m., and appointments are not required. The adoption process can be completed in a matter of hours. If a pet has already been spayed or neutered, it can go home the same day. If not, the animal goes home the following day.
