Marigold is a 3-year-old, 38-pound dog available for adoption at Humane Broward, and she is ready to find her forever home.
Marigold came to the shelter with puppies, all of whom have since been adopted.
Because she nursed her litter, she developed mastitis, an infection in her mammary gland, and required surgery. She has made a full recovery.
Cheri Walker, a representative from Humane Broward, said Marigold is social, sweet, and well-behaved.
"She is definitely potty trained, which is great. And I think an ideal home is a family that's going to devote some time to her and spoil her and show her what true love really is," Walker said.
Marigold still needs to gain a few pounds, but Walker said her strong motivation makes that an easy fix with the right family. She is also good with other dogs; she spotted her own reflection on a monitor and wanted to play, though the shelter conducts meet-and-greets to ensure compatibility.
Thanks to Dolly's Dream, Marigold's adoption fee has been covered. Dolly's Dream supports breed dogs at the shelter. She will also go home with goodies from the pet food, which may include treats.
Walker said the shelter currently has many dogs available for adoption, and larger dogs have been staying longer than usual.
"If you have room in your heart and your home for a dog that's not even that big, she's 38 pounds- please open up your heart and home to a bigger dog, because so many of them are well trained like Marigold. They just need somebody to give them a chance," Walker said.
Walker also noted that cats at the shelter are being adopted quickly, which she attributed to people moving into apartments or smaller living spaces.
