Jamaica is rolling out a packed summer calendar of music festivals, cultural celebrations, and sporting events, and the Jamaica Tourist Board has launched a campaign to make sure travelers don't miss a moment of it.
Philip Rose, deputy director of tourism for Visit Jamaica, said the Jamaica Summer Vibes campaign is designed to spotlight everything the island has to offer during the season.
"Jamaica is always a vibe. Jamaica is always fantastic, whether summer, winter or fall," Rose said. "But right now we're talking about all the summer vibes."
Rose said the campaign highlights cultural activities, culinary fairs, and sporting events across the island.
"We have the opportunity to launch a campaign to highlight all the activities, the cultural activities, culinary fairs, sporting events, all the things that our visitors can enjoy," Rose said.
Among the featured events is Dream Weekend in Montego Bay, a week-long series of parties and concerts. The Bay Jerk and Food Festival is also set for Montego Bay on Aug. 1. Jamaica's Independence Day on Aug. 6 brings celebrations across the entire island, and an event called Best Weekend Ever rounds out the summer lineup.
"Independence Day celebrations in Jamaica is something that is spectacular. That is on August 6th and it is across the entire island," Rose said.
For accommodations, Rose said the island has options for every type of traveler, from luxury resorts to beachside bungalows. He spoke from Couples Sans Souci in Ocho Rios, highlighting the property's mineral spa, dining, and piano bar as standout features.
"There's something for everybody. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a luxury resort, a bungalow on the beach, there's something for everyone," Rose said.
When asked what sets Jamaica apart from other destinations, Rose pointed not to the beaches or the landscape, but to the people.
"The one thing everybody tells me about is just how warm Jamaicans are," Rose said. "The thing that keeps visitors coming back again and again and again is always the Jamaicans. They tell me about how great they make them feel and how welcoming they are."
