Football season means tailgates, backyard watch parties, and plenty of game day food, and registered dietitian and mom Jamie Lee McIntyre says feeding a crowd does not have to be complicated.

"You can absolutely have that burger and eat your veggies too. I'm all about making foods that people already love. Just work a little bit better for you. So you want to build around easy staples like the burgers and the hot dogs and then add toppings, really colorful sides with fruits and veggies so everybody can customize," McIntyre said.

McIntyre said the bun is a key part of the game day experience and recommends Nature's Own butter buns and brioche style buns in both hamburger and hot dog varieties.

"You can go classic with the butter buns, or choose the brioche style when you want something a little more rich. And then just add those sides like the fruit, the veggies, the corn, beans, salad, whatever you like as well," McIntyre said.

When it comes to choosing bread and buns, McIntyre said simplicity is the goal.

"Keep it simple, and I really mean that literally. So look at the ingredient list, look at the nutrition facts and choose foods that fit your preferences," McIntyre said.

Nature's Own recently introduced a simpler recipe across its entire product portfolio, with up to 38% fewer ingredients than before, while maintaining the same soft texture and taste. All products are now also Non-GMO Project Verified.

McIntyre said the change aligns with what parents are already looking for.

"Nature's own research found that 88% of parents say feeding their kids bread made with simple ingredients no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. That feels like an easy win. And as a mom, of course, I have to agree," McIntyre said.

McIntyre said small swaps can make a big difference without overhauling family favorites.

"You don't have to overhaul all your family's favorites. Just a little swap is a great place to start," McIntyre said.

For a spread that works for both kids and adults, McIntyre recommends setting up a DIY station with Nature's Own butter burger and hot dog buns and brioche-style hamburger and hot dog buns, then letting everyone choose their own toppings and sides such as lettuce, tomato, avocado, pickles, and cheese.
