The Florida Panthers spent the summer visiting libraries across South Florida as part of their seventh annual Summer Reading Tour.
Each stop on the tour included educational activations, photo opportunities, Stanley Cup appearances, and a Panthers personality reading to children in attendance.
At the main library in Fort Lauderdale, Panthers alum and broadcaster Bill Lindsay joined in on the fun.
"To give back and to see the excitement on the face is just puts a smile on your face. So really tremendously. This is my community. It's home. It's things like this are just thrilled that I'm able to give back," Lindsay said.
The Panthers' community initiatives extend beyond the tour. The team is embedded into the Broward County Library system, offering a limited-edition Panthers library card and an ongoing Summer Reading Challenge for Kids Club members.
Lindsay reflected on the importance of reading and his own experience at one of the stops.
"The more you read, the more you understand, the more it's going to open up your world. Actually, I was reading the book today with the dinosaurs, and you know, some of the dinosaur names were quite complex. And I'm sitting there like, Holy smokes! What's harder, a hockey name or that?" Lindsay said.
Lindsay also made clear the day left a lasting impression on him.
"It's a blast that smiles on my face. It's going to last, you know, the rest of the day. The kids are just a just a treat," Lindsay said.
