The Bash Brothers are now on the same team. Brady Tkachuk is joining his brother Matthew Tkachuk on the Florida Panthers, and the news came as a surprise on Father's Day, Sunday, June 21.
Brady said the day was already packed with family milestones when the news broke.
"It was a great Father's Day. It started with Millie's, Matthew's daughter's baptism, at a brunch. And then I was off my phone for five minutes when it happened. We were doing family pictures, and from then on, I just couldn't believe it. It's just, and I know I'm going to need a couple of days after this just to regroup and just really, you know, think about everything that has happened," Brady said.
Brady said the excitement didn't stop there. The following day brought another major announcement: their father, Big Walt, was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Brady said his father had planned to keep the news secret until the official announcement, but couldn't hold it in.
"I just can't believe it's real, and it's not been amazing. On the next day, having Big Walt being in the Hall of Fame and the way that he told us, he was going to wait us out and not tell anybody until the announcement, that was going to be the surprise. But now he couldn't do it. So he told us, and it just, I mean, that was just such a dream to be a part of, to know all his work. And, you know, we see him as a dad, but just to see him get rewarded for him as a player was pretty amazing," Brady said.
