A South Florida plumbing company says it can replace corroded sewer pipes in as few as 3 days, without breaking floors or forcing homeowners out of their homes.
Wesley Da Silva, manager of Speedy Piper, said most customers come to the company when they start experiencing sewer backups in toilets and sinks. He said the problem is especially common in South Florida, where homes built before 1975 were constructed with cast iron pipes that have since begun to corrode, rust, and, in some cases, fully collapse.
"Before 1975 everything was used with cast iron," Da Silva said. "They started to corrode. So they started getting eaten away and rusted out."

"We don't go and break the floors. Nothing," Da Silva said. "We tunnel under the house to access the pipes."

A full pipe replacement in a standard-sized home typically takes 3 to 5 days, compared to 2 to 3 weeks with other companies, or as long as a month to a month and a half if floors are broken up using traditional methods.
He said one of the biggest advantages for homeowners is that they never lose access to their home or plumbing during the process.
"You don't have to move out of your house; you stay in your house. There's no downtime. You can use your kitchen, you can use your toilets, your shower. Life goes normal. No changes," Da Silva said.
