A 9-week-old puppy named Cara is available for adoption at the Humane Society of Broward County, and she is already winning hearts.

Matthew Seligman of the Humane Society of Broward County said Cara was found as a stray along with two littermates. The organization's system lists her as a Welsh Corgi mix, though Seligman said he suspects there may be more to her breed story.

"I believe our system has them listed as like some kind of Welsh Corgi mix, but I think I see a little more Dachshund in here," Seligman said. "I bet you the DNA panel on her would be quite interesting."

Seligman said Cara is on the calmer side for a puppy, but prospective adopters should still come prepared for the realities of raising a young dog.

"Think of newborns, right? We're going to have accidents a lot. You're going to be waking up late in the night, having to deal with the crying and the housebreaking," Seligman said. "If you're taking a puppy, I always give adopters that forewarning, be ready."

He said Cara would fit well in almost any household, though a younger, more active home would be an especially good match. All of Cara's littermates have already been spayed or neutered and are also available for adoption.

Seligman noted that stray dogs remain a common challenge in Broward County, but said Cara and her littermates ended up in the right place.

"At least they ended up in the right place," Seligman said.

For those interested in adopting Cara or any other animal, the Humane Society of Broward County has dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and more available.
